Marc Koska at Google Zeitgeist

'Google Zeitgeist 2010: Catalyst' by AlphachimpStudio (Peter Durand)

Marc spent an inspiring two days at Google Zeitgeist last month in Phoenix, Arizona.

He was invited to participate in an interesting panel discussion entitled, "Catalyst". Full-on discussions took place on: how some leaders are able to set off a chain reaction and how others can bring so much attention to new ideas and initiatives.

Zeitgeist invites the leading thinkers of our time to join together to explore ideas and debates on topics that influence not only the global economy, but also creativity, technology, leadership and human rights.

Here's Marc’s section on the panel:

Spread the word and forward this film

We make no apologies for immediately asking you to do one small thing upon reading this blog post.

Your support is invaluable in helping us bring to light the devastating consequences that unsafe injection practices can have.

Please take two minutes out of your day and click here (www.lifesaveraction.org) to see the most recent film Marc has made on the issue of injection safety.

Safe Injection Message

.

Click here to Comment on this video, and Favourite, Rate and Share it in YouTube

In it, you'll hear how fatal diseases like HIV and Hepatitis are most often spread by unsafe injections and by the everyday actions of heatlhcare workers in millions of under funded clinics in developing countries.

We would ask you please to watch the film, and then forward the link to as many friends and family as you can.

We know from our work over the past 25 years that awareness prompts action.

We're aiming to reach our target of 10 million lives saved this year, and we need your help to do so.

Thank you!

What is LifeSaver?

LifeSaver is a campaign that is inviting all global AD (auto-disable) syringe manufacturers to include the new LifeSaver logo and message "New Packet. Used Once. Safely Disposed" on all their packaging. LifeSaver represents the procedure given by a health worker and received by a patient, and can be simply adopted, free of charge, by any organisation. The logo is distinctive and easily recognized, and will act as a unique guarantee of a safe injection.

TV News Report on The Climb Tanzania 2010 - today!

Clare Beale, Catherine English, Ginny Simpson and Anna Koska

Meridian ITV recently filmed the 4 girls in their lovely icebreaker outfits, warming up and training on the Ashdown Forest in preparation for their fund-raising trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. Marc and the girls were also interviewed.

The report is expected to be broadcast during today's lunchtime news, 1.30-2.00pm, and again in the evening news, 10.00-10.35pm. [It actually aired on Saturday 10th July]. It's on terrestrial channel 3 if you are in the Meridian region (south east). If you have Sky but are in another part of the UK, you can still get Meridian - it's a little bit fiddly but here are the instructions.

MK: This will be the lowest tech presentation of today. It's about syringes.

Misuse of syringes kill more people than malaria

Mostly kids in developing countries are doing the recycling which leads to infection

People are misinformed about the problems with old syringes.

Misuse is another problem: Kids use the syringes as water pistols. But they sometimes also use them to shoot water into their mouth even if they're still bloody.

The solution is a safer product!

If people in developing countries can not rely on their doctors to do the right thing, they need to rely in the product to make them safe

Marc Koska (Safe Point) invented a syringe that wouldn't work a second time, making it impossible to re-use. And thus saved more than nine million lives. Here's the story behind all this.

Founder of The Safepoint Trust, Marc Koska, featured in Wired Magazine

.
December issue of Wired UK

Renown for its articles on new ideas, technology, culture and business, Wired Magazine features a profile on Marc in its UK December 2009 issue.

Interviewed and written by Jack Dyson, the article sums up the last 25 years of Marc’s plight.

This is not the first time that Marc has appeared in Wired. In August 2009, the story of how he came to invent the auto disable syringe and set up The Safepoint Trust is told in an article called "One use only: the broken syringe that saves lives" by Katie Scott. And in the US version of Wired, Marc's invention and Safepoint are mentioned in a November 2009 article called "Gadgets and Ideas to Revolutionize Healthcare" by Aaron Rowe.
